The Glen Bogue Story captures the missionary history of how the United Pentecostal Church of Australia began. While on one level the book documents the great planner in action (Bogue), at a deeper level it witnesses the love and care God has for Australia, the “sunburnt country,” and its people.
A Missionary Story
Founders Glen and Iris Bogue had hearts full of sacrifice and love for Australia and its people. Glen Bogue resigned from a large, healthy church in Gary, Indiana, because he was persuaded that God had directed him to go preach in an unknown country.
The Glen Bogue Story weaves together a rich tapestry of a family’s life on two different continents: North America and Australia, mainly in the state of New South Wales, each with their own socioeconomic character. The book traces the impact this family’s beliefs had on people from both of those regions.
The Glen Bogue Story will show you what to do when you are faced with daunting problems, difficulties that seem to have no solutions, and situations that seem to be unfathomable. Click To TweetGlen had a vision from God during revival meetings with G. A. Mangun. Through that vision Glen realized that God wanted him to go evangelize a country in the middle of the Pacific Ocean—an island continent as far as one could imagine from the United States but where there seemed to be no Jesus’ name work.
Glen began to pray for miracles, for God to open doors. Glen knew nobody in Australia, knew of no housing available for him, his wife, and five children, and had no mandatory sponsor.

And then. . .
“Upon returning to Gary, Glen heard a man preach on the radio station in Chicago. They announced him as an Australian who was with the Open-Air Campaigners. His name was Jim Duffecy. So Glen called the radio station and set up an appointment to meet Mr. Jim Duffecy the following day. They met in the foyer of the Congress Hotel on Michigan Avenue. Glen said, “Sir, God has sent you here, to help me go to Australia. I need a sponsor. I am a minister of the gospel. “What kind of minister are you?” Duffecy asked. I answered back, “I am a Pentecostal minister.” I was tempted to say a good minister! “We don’t want any more Pentecostal ministers in Australia. We already have about hundred Assemblies of God ministers down there and they are not very popular. We don’t want anymore. I wouldn’t turn my little finger to help you get into Australia, Mr. Bogue. I don’t believe in what you preach and you’re not wanted there!”
What could he do in the face of this rejection and opposition? What would you do?
The Glen Bogue Story will show you what to do when you are faced with daunting problems, difficulties that seem to have no solutions, and situations that seem to be unfathomable. It was only a determined, untiring spirit with a profound conviction of God’s call and a great sense of humor that propelled Glen onto the path that God had for him. The rest has become history.
Glen and his family were to confront many more seemingly unscalable mountains along with a fair share of adventures of various proportions. This book shares that journey and God’s faithfulness all along the way.
