Chances are you have already followed the steps the apostle Peter spoke about in Acts 2:38 when he stated that we are to “repent, and be baptized . . . in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
As a result, you’re probably fired up and ready to “go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). Because after all, “how then shall [your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers] believe in Him of whom they have not heard? (Romans 10:14).
But how do you actually prepare to teach a Bible study? You’ll be glad to know that it is easier than you think! For starters:
First, prepare your own heart.
While the Pentecostal Publishing House offers several supplemental materials that will guide you on how to a teach a home Bible study to others, you must first and foremost prepare yourself spiritually before the actual Bible study begins. Take time to repent and prepare your heart beforehand. Then pray over the study itself, asking God to grant you revelation, insight, and wisdom to answer the questions that will come. You want to be in tune with God’s Spirit as He uses you to speak into the lives of those who attend your Bible study. After all Acts 1:8 clearly states that “ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me…unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Second, prayerfully consider the needs of the learner.
Prayerfully consider the learner’s motivation and purpose for attending the Bible study session with you. Are you aware of what their immediate needs and prayer points are? Are they even aware of what a Bible study is? If you’re not sure, openly communicate with them and say, “I am so excited for our Bible study on Tuesday! As I prepare, is there anything specific I can help you pray about?” The learner’s response will help point you in the right direction, especially in selecting the right Bible study for them.
Third, carefully select the most appropriate Bible study for the situation.
