Living in Faith | Read a Book Excerpt

Stories of Faith seoLynne Jewett’s life in missions began on April 1, 1989. After serving as an Associate in Missions in Guatemala and Mexico, she became a fully appointed missionary with the United Pentecostal Church in 1996. In addition to Bible school teaching and administration, faculty development training, and teaching seminars, she gives herself to children’s crusades.

More recently, because of the love in her heart and the need being so overwhelming, she founded and headed the efforts for the establishment of HOME International in Guatemala. She, along with a great team, is bringing faith, family, and future to children without hope. As an orphan herself in New Brunswick, Canada, this project fulfills one of Lynne’s lifelong dreams to provide healing and hope to children just like her.

Disaster’s Minister Book Excerpt: Living in Faith

When life doesn’t make sense, I think of the story of the Shunammite woman in II Kings chapter four. She had faithfully served the Lord and His prophet, giving him a place to stay. She had prayed for a son and received her answer, cradling the longing of her heart in her arms. Then one day, he was gone. She went straight to the prophet. She did not say to her husband that her son had died. She did not wail or complain. She went to the man of God first. No screaming. No crying. Straight to God with all her pain and confusion. Straight to the only source of strength, the only real answer to the question life brings. We do not know what things life will bring our way, but according to Romans 8:28 (NKJV) “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

Like the Shunammite woman or famed hymn writer, Horatio Spafford, as he stood on the deck of the ship taking him to his grieving wife after the loss of all four of their children, we too can say, “It is well with my soul.” Life doesn’t have to make sense for a soul to be well lived.

Disasters Minister – Author Lynne Jewett shares: It seems that throughout my life, I have had to face challenges of many shapes and sizes. Through those challenges are the “stories.” Through each “story,” there has been a lesson learned. That is what I wish to accomplish through the writing of this book. I wish to share the lessons I feel that the Lord has taught me through each and every disaster.
